MY BABY 14 WEEKS PREGGERZ

I have been very upset the last few days about my baby. I have felt sad but I refuse to hate my baby or regret him/her. Yes things are tough now but I will get through it and be a stronger person. There are so many people who would love to have a baby and they can't. Here I am and I get pregnant at a drop of a hat. I went to go buy Tommee Tippee bottles yesterday  It was a bargain at Baby Boom. Cape Gate's branch had to order it from Somerset but I finally got it. 4 bottles for R149!  I weighed myself today. From 83 kg I went down to 77 kg. My friend Karin is also now pregnant with me. She is about 8 weeks behind me but better late than never. I am so happy to have my friend preggies with me. Morning sickness has subsided and we went to go get clothes at Meltz for me. Shopping is so hard when you are overgrown at the waist and maternity clothes are overpriced just because we are desperate. I went with Corbynne's dad to a wedding. We went to Edgars for clothes and all I wanted to do was cry. I was tired, hot and irritable, not to mentioned trying on outfit after outfit with no luck. The evening was a success even though we failed at hiding my pregnancy. I felt like I was gonna pass out several times. I'm glad for the lady at Nedbank that told me sucking on sweets will help.

FIREFLY CATERERS

The last few days I have been extremely busy getting everything ready for our new venture. I finally had a great idea for something I can do from home while I am busy growing my baby like a banana tree. A catering company!

My friend and myself are going into this together and we will be starting small but it is better than nothing. I am blessed to have a friend like Bihanca though. We have created our name and yesterday I took some time to create the logo which is absolutely fabulous by the way. We have letterheads, an email address, professional email signatures and professional quotes and statements with our logo. I can't remember when last I have been this scared but I am sure we will do just fine. I am busy researching but I think for now we will stick to platters and kiddies birthday parties.

I am so scared because it is unknown territory for me but I am glad that I finally found something to do from home. If this business can do well then I will be happy. I want to be my own boss and I want to work from home. I want to be creative while being business minded and this is perfect.

Wish me luck everybody!

BEING A SINGLE MOTHER

These last couple of weeks have been the hardest. I initially started my blog so that I can be in contact with other mothers and especially other single mothers. Being a first time mom is hard, being a first time single mom is even harder and I don't always know what it is that I am missing or how a typical child my kids age is. My son is 3 now and I have never been married and have not had a stable relationship that is worth mentioning. Sometimes I think that I am doing my son a huge injustice raising him alone with my parents but at the end of the day I guess I can't blame myself for his dad not wanting to be with us. All I can do is do the best from my side. Everyday my heart breaks when he asks for his dad or mentions him. As I am blogging this I put a slide show on of photos for Corbynne. Even a photo of his dads foot sticking out in the corner he recognises and mentions. The zoo photo's he mentions that it is daddy's bear etc. Is it natural to be upset by these things? Having a child by a man means that you will probably always love or care for that man unless he did something very wrong. Is it always gonna hurt when my sons misses his father? Is it always going to hurt that I could not fix my sons family for him? When I go to deliver this baby that I am pregnant with now am I gonna feel twice the guilt for the rest of my life? This pregnancy has been very emotional as well because I am planning everything alone. I am looking at Corbynne's birth photo's and I am trying to face the fact that nobody will be there. It just amazes me that the man that made Corbynne, witnessed my pregnancy, was there for the birth and stared into his face after birth is just not interested and is this disconnected. This is the man who use to sleep with Corbynne on his chest. Almost every photo that is showing that I have of Corbynne's baby stage is filled with his dad and then after a year old.... NOTHING... no daddy.  It angers me that he doesn't care and it upsets me that my son does. I would expect a 3 year old not to care but the fact that photo's of his dad upsets him and he tells me "Corbynne wants daddy" breaks me. Obviously it makes me think further and I think about this baby that's on it's way will never have photo's of daddy and will probably in the end never know him. He is planning on going to Switzerland for a year or two to go work there. Is that a way to get away and is it maybe for the best so that my son can forget him and then so can I.
The science of it all is that men and women are wired differently and I guess the sooner I get over him the better and then maybe my son will too. As for my baby I don't know what to feel and people can give advice and friends can wipe my tears and give me their advice but in the end it's me standing in reality.

WEEK-BY-WEEK PREGNANCY

1-week-pregnant
Week 1: You’re not really pregnant yet; the clock starts ticking from the first day
of your last period. So even though pregnancies are said to be 40 weeks long, you actually carry your baby for only 38 weeks or so. Read more about being 1 week pregnant.

2-weeks-pregnant
Week 2: Ovulation occurs; ideally, sperm will already be lying (er, swimming) in wait. Read more about being 2 weeks pregnant.

3-weeks-pregnant
Week 3: Fertilization occurs in one of the fallopian tubes. Cell division begins at breakneck speed.

Your Growing Baby

Fertilization occurs in one of the fallopian tubes. Cell division begins at breakneck speed.
Though it's very early in your pregnancy, things are definitely happening! Once the "winning" sperm (one of 200 million or so contenders) has penetrated your egg, the egg shuts down, admitting no more sperm. Two sets of cell nuclei fuse together inside the egg, assigning your baby—now called a zygote—a gender, eye and hair color and more than 200 other genetically determined characteristics.

Your Growing Belly

Be sure that you're taking good care of your baby. Now, if not before you started trying to conceive, you should:
Quit smoking.
Avoid alcohol.
Avoid drugs: the legal, the illegal, and those labeled "herbal supplements," and those that come as skin creams (such as acne medication) and in beverages (like caffeine).
Immediately tell your care provider about any prescription or other medications you currently take or were taking at the time you conceived.
Avoid taking large amounts of vitamins: an over-the-counter prenatal or even daily chewable (like a Flintstone) is enough and is recommended for all women who are trying to conceive or who could possibly become pregnant.
If you have any kind of medical appointment with a doctor or dentist, inform them that you may be pregnant.
Eat five servings of different fruits and vegetables daily.
Drink plenty of water.

4-weeks-pregnant
Week 4: The fertilized egg (known as a zygote) implants in the wall of the uterus; the placenta and umbilical cord begin to form. Read more about being 4 weeks pregnant.

5-weeks-pregnant
Week 5: The gastrointestinal tract, spinal cord, heart, brain, blood and blood vessels begin to form. The embryo is 1∕16 to 1∕8 inch long “crown to rump” (the measurement that’s used until week 13). Read more about being 5 weeks pregnant.

6-weeks-pregnant
Week 6: The heart begins to pump blood, and the neural tube that will become the spine closes (which is why taking folic acid early is essential). The embryo takes on a C-shape; arm and leg buds begin to form; and the skin is translucent. Length: about 1∕4 inch. Fetus fact: The heart will beat 54 million times before birth! Read more about being 6 weeks pregnant.

7-weeks-pregnant
Week 7: The head is about 1∕3 the size of the entire embryo. The brain and face are developing rapidly, and nostrils and lenses of the eyes begin to form. Arm buds become paddle-shaped; hands begin to form. Length: about 1∕3 inch. Read more about being 7 weeks pregnant.

8-weeks-pregnant
Week 8: Brainwave activity starts. Fingers and toes begin to form and are webbed. Lungs, ears, eyes, upper lip and nose start to form. The body is beginning to straighten, and subtle movements begin. Length: about 1∕2 inch. Read more about being 8 weeks pregnant.

9-weeks-pregnant
Week 9: The heart is almost completely developed. Eyelids are forming, as are hair follicles and nipples; the embryo can hiccup now. Fingers and toes are no longer webbed. The arms develop bones, and the hands begin to touch the face. The legs start to move. Length: about 3∕4 inch. Read more about being 9 weeks pregnant.

10-weeks-pregnant
Week 10: The developing baby is now called a fetus. The eyelids begin to fuse to protect the eyes. The fetus begins doing occasional breathing movements, although it gets oxygen through the umbilical cord. The skin becomes less translucent, and genitals begin to form. Length: almost 1 ¼ inches.

Your Growing Belly

Congratulations, your uterus has swollen to the size of a softball! Looking in the mirror, your shape has definitely changed: less waist and more chest.
Breasts are busiest in the first trimester. During the first few weeks, progesterone causes milk glands to develop and estrogen stimulates growth of the milk ducts. Breasts typically expand one or two bra cup sizes, veins get darker, and nipples get larger, more erect and darker so that eventually, the baby can find them easily.
Your weight gain may be picking up—though don't worry if you haven't gained any by now. Bottom line, if your provider isn't concerned about how much or how little you've gained, you shouldn't be either.

Tips & To-Do's

Prenatal Testing
First-Trimester Screening
WHO IT’S OFFERED TO: All women.

WHEN IT’S OFFERED: At 10 to 13 weeks.

WHAT IT SCREENS FOR: Chromosomal defects such as Down syndrome and trisomy 18 (an often lethal defect); some cardiac defects.

HOW IT WORKS: Blood is drawn from the mother, and three fetal proteins are measured. These results are combined with the results of a detailed ultrasound (nuchal translucency) that measures the thickness at the back of the fetus’s neck.

HOW EFFECTIVE IT IS: It has an 80 percent to 85 percent detection rate for Down syndrome, with a 4 percent to 6 percent false-positive rate.

WHAT IF …? If you have a positive screen and are not comfortable with the odds, you may opt for a diagnostic test to determine if your baby has a defect. Another option is to do an additional screen in the second trimester—but this will not give you a definitive answer, either.

11-weeks-pregnant
Week 11: Nearly all the organs and body structures are formed and beginning to function. Genitals begin to take on either male or female form. The head makes up about half of the fetus’s body. Length: about 2 inches. Fetus fact: The fetus can sigh, stretch, move its head and suck its thumb.

Your Growing Belly

Your body's expanding, inside and out. The next ten weeks will be a period of rapid growth for you and the baby. You'll need more water as you produce more blood, sweat, oil, and amniotic fluid. You may feel desperately thirsty at times. It's a good idea to carry a beverage with you wherever you go, to keep your fluid levels up. Drink plenty of water and milk, but steer away from carbonated beverages.

Tips & To-Do's

10 (surprising!) Prenatal Power Foods
As you know, folate, fiber and iron are essential nutrients for you and your growing baby. What you may not know is that you can get all three by eating chives. Or, how about adding figs to your diet to boost your calcium intake? From The 100 Healthiest Foods to Eat During Pregnancy, here are 10 unexpected (and delicious!) foods that will provide the nutrition you need during pregnancy.

12-weeks-pregnant
Week 12: The face begins to look more human. Length: 3 inches (head to heel, the measurement from now on).

Your Growing Baby

The face begins to look more human. Length: 3 inches (head to heel, the measurement from now on).
She may weigh as much as half an ounce. This begins the age when the fetus starts to look really cut in those womb pictures. If you had a womb camera, you'd be able to see your baby's proportions changing, with the growth of the head slowing down to let the rest of the body catch up. Arms, legs, and fingers are also growing out and tapering to look more like a newborn's, and your baby's posture becomes less curled and more upright.

Your Growing Belly

This is about the time the muscles of your stomach slow down, making your stools harder and drier and making you gassier. You uterus has gotten too big to fit in its usual spot—your pelvis. It's now pushing into your abdomen, though not yet in any uncomfortable way. Your heart rate may speed up because of the extra volume of blood in your body. Your hips are actually widening to make more room for your uterus to grow.
With one week to go in your first trimester, you may feel more like your pregnancy is real. The magic end of the first trimester is at hand, which means it'll soon be time to tell your boss, co-workers, and distant relatives about your condition, if they haven't figured it out already. Take brisk walks, eat high-fiber foods, and drink plenty of water to keep your intestinal tract moving.

THINKING AHEAD

Q:  Who would you like to care for you at your baby's birth?
A:  Right now I am doing eveything alone. I have taken into consideration that I will need to get my son taken care of when I am in labour and I need to drive there myself. I need a hospital that has parking that is secure for patients' cars (porters that take the car). I need to prepare the car for bringing the baby back home too. It makes me very sad to think about this because I will be absolutely alone during this time. I have spoken to my Dr to make this as easy a transition as possible as this is a very emotional time for me. I am very happy but I am very emotional that I am doing this alone and without the dad involved.

Q:  Do you want help with the pain?
A: Yes, the first time it was unbearable without pain medication. This time they must give me whatever they can.

Q:  What hospital do you want your baby at?
A:  Right now it is between 2. It will either be Kuilsriver Netcare or Louis Leipoldt MediClinic.

MY ULTRASOUND 06 NOV 2012

06 NOVEMBER 2012 13H00 N1 CITY HOSPITAL

The ultrasound went great. Corbynne went with me. Corbynne sat next to me on the chair holding my handbag on his lap. I was so surprised how clear I could see the baby. The cutest  was when the baby jumped. He/she keeps on wanting to hold it's face.

MY PREGNANCY

Q:  What did you feel when you realized you're pregnant?
A:  I was ecsatically happy. I immediately thought about how Corbyne's going to enjoy having a sibling.

Q:  Who did you tell first that you're pregnant?
A:  My friends

Q:  Has it been difficult to tell anybody that you are pregnant?
A: Yes, once again my parents and the dad.

Q:  What differences have you noticed in yourself?
A:  My eating habits and fatigue.I am unable to stomache anything. The Asic tablets do not work either. I am currently trying Ginger Beer. It helps with the nausea but doesn't make me want to eat.

I found out I was pregnant on 18/09/2012. I felt happy. The first peole I told were my frends. I went for my first doctor's appointment on 19/09/2012. I had my first scan on 06/11/2012. I had no food cravings only nausea. The best pregnancy advice I have had is that I ust do what feels right for me. What I am most scared of is having a 2nd baby as a single mother. The future seems scary.  birth wish for myelf andthe baby is to deliver in a priate hospital and be able to relax.

9 OCTOBER 2012 - MATERNITY CLOTHES

I went maternity clothes shopping today. I found a great little shop in Durnbanville when I took my car to be fixed. Pinkfoot Boutique, 8 Oxford Street, Durbanville. Lucky for me I am a single mom and I don't need any sexy clothes because I've realized you don't get sexy upsize stuff.

21 SEPTEMBER 2012 - YAY FOR THE WEEKEND

I am going camping in Worcester this weekend. I have packed alot of fruit sincethat is all I can stomach. I started taking Folic Acid tablets and Iron tablets the last 2 days

MY BIRTH ACCOUNT 16 SEPT 2009

Mommy was in labour approx 4 - 5 days. Mommy and dddy went to Tygerberg Zoo and when we stopped to go in I felt a pain.  Funny enough we made jokes thatTygerberg Zoo was nowhere near Tygerberg and that if I go into labour then I don't know where you're gonna be born.  I read books that labour cantake long so we went to the zoo and enjoyed the ime together so much. The huge bear was the best. When we went home daddy stopped at Sanlam Shopping Centre and we checked the movies that were on. I wanted to watch "UP" for a long time and daddy wantedus to watch it. As we were goin to purchase the tickets I thought about the labour pains I have and decided we must rather go home. My hospital bag was in the car for a month or so, just for incase. The pains were unbearble and I couldnt lay down or sit.

For the nextfew days I had to walk around the house, I couldn't sleep and when I lay down the pain gets worse. Everytime I go to the hospital they sent me home to dilate further. Finally the night before you were born I decided to take a bath in the warmest water I could. I couldn't wee in the toilet :) because I couldn't sit. I had to put a bucket on a table (and my LG Choc phonefell in the bucket). The warm water bath helped and soon I had contractions a few minutes apart. Daddy slept through it all. Oupa panicked and said I must go to hospital. I woke daddy up, sat in the back of the car with a pillow. I went into hospital and the porter asked me if I wanted a wheelchair but I said no. A few seconds later he peeped around the corner and found me holding onto the wall unable to walk. The morning hours that followed you were born. Daddy didn't want to let you go, he held you and stared at you the whoile time.

36 WEEKS (AUGUST 2009)

My last day at work was 14 August, due to my dr's appointment on the 15th. Everybody decorated my desk wit balloons and streamers. Wen it was time to go home, everybody were gone. I got dragged to "THE LFT" blind-folded and everybody was there. A surprise baby shower. I appreciate it so much. Apparently baby turned now...

I went for a sonar (15th) Danilo went with :) Was o happy he was with. I am so nervous to give birth naturally. I am just glad I have Danilo to get me through it. he has been my rock throughout the prenancy.

21 WEEKS 10 MAY 2009

It is mothersday!

My mom felt the baby moving and kicking for the first time, which was very special. Yesterday my brother bought some very boyish clothes :) I just want it t stay a baby forever. I have been working overtime (12 hours a day) to prepare for unpaid maternity leave

20 WEEK SCAN 30 APRIL 2009

Today at 11am I went for my 20 week scan. As they started I could see baby fiddeling with his face. They tried to his face and everytime he moved his head away. The one doctor didn't want to tell me what it is as it was not very clear. Then she called Dr Ross. I had to ay on my right-hand side to get the baby to move. Everytime he kicks or slaps the ultrasound scanner :) I could see how he moves his legs up to his tummy and looks away. After a while he started behaving so that we can take pictures and measure him. The daddy came after work to see the pictures - I absolutely loves that he cares so much abd I couldn't ask for a better dad for my son.

WEEK 20

YOUR EMOTIONS NOW

Q:  What special feelings do you have at this stage of your pregnancy?
A:  I'm very eager to know if it's a boy or a girl. I've been convinced since the start that it is a boy. I have been geting weird nightmares of rabbits that I give birth to that suck my nipples and want milk! I'm terrified of giving birth! I love the way baby is moving and the preparing for the baby!

LETTER TO MY BABY 7 APRIL 2009

I will start my letter by saying, I never thought I could love somebody this much that I have never met. I never ever want you to doubt how much of a miracle you are in my life. There is no better feeling in the world than to feel you moving inside me. The only wish and hopes I have is to be the best mother you could ask for. I hope that you will always feel loved and cared for.

Love,
Mommy

By trying to understand whensomething hurts or cramps.  My babys dad doesn't feel like he will be able to be there during birth, which is okay with me ecause it is enough to freak anybody out. I might have my mom with me becaus eshe had 2 kids and she will be able to be an advocate for me if something goes wrong.  Plus, you don't want a man remembering you and the baby like that :)

FIRST ULTRASOUND 18 FEB 2009

My first ultrasound was nothing like I expected. I was nervous, felt out of place and I didn't feel pregnant. My tummy was flat and most of my morning sickness has passed. I got to see my baby and it's heartbeat. We went for breakfast to celebrate. The only question I had for the lady was "Does it have limbs?" and she repied "Why wouldn't it have?" :) I am 10 weeks and 2 days acording to the ultrasound.

A:  Early because I want my baby all to myself

Q:  IF YOU ARE HAVING AN EARLY DISCHARGE, WHO WILL LOOK AFTER YOU AFTER THE BABY IS BORN?
A:  My mother. She knows me best and I know she only wants the best for me and baby

MY FEELINGS (29 JANUARY 2009)

Up until now I've had various feelings about my pregnancy. I tried telling my mom three times yesterday but didn't know how. I then contated my brother to tell him he is going to be an uncle in a few months. He was very excited and had many questions (he is thinking of names). This is a confusing time for me. I'm reading my book "PREGNANCY SUCKS" by Joanne Kimes and laughing out loud. I went from non pregnant to feeling like I am dying a harsh death.  I am going to have a tough time ahead but I'm hoping that my son/daughter will be able to bring me lots of joy. I can't calculate how far I am because I never made notes of my last periods.

MY FEELINGS UP TO NOW... (28 JAN 09)

My morning sickness is better today. I'm starting to be happy about the pregnancy. I'm just waiting for the blood results to be able to go to antenatal. I'm fearing telling my parents. I am also fearing my job and I'm paying my debt finished now. Up until yesterday I could not eat. I was stuck with KFC mash and gravy, milkshakes, milk and lollipops. I am starting to get a cold though. We have been calling the foetus MONKEY! The guy at work (the daddy) bought me a monkey teddy by Edgars :) ... I didn't tell my parents yet and to be a first time mom is so hard. I dont know were to go or what is going to happen

AT THE CLINIC (2009)

Q:  WHAT WERE OUR FEELINGS ABOUT YOUR FIRST ANTENATAL VISIT?
A:  I was disappointed but I am going t write all my questions down and in 4 weeks I will ask my questions

Q:  DID YOU HAVE A OPPORTUNITY TO DISCUSS ALL THE THINGS YOU WANTED?
A:  No but that is what the list is for

Q:  WHAT QUESTIONS DO YOU WANT TO ASK AT YOUR NEXT VISIT?
A:  About my baby, about giving birth, harmful thing that might hurt baby, work related questions
